Why Balloons are Still Effective at Open Houses

Tried and True Way to Make Your Listing Stand Out

Open House Banners - Real Estate MarketingThere are still a lot of reasons that Realtor’s host open houses for their listings. For newer agents they are still an effective way to get buyers.

Open Houses also give the selling agent great exposure for their listing, and their marketing plan. Also, sellers love them!

So, you are having an open house, should you use balloons to market it? The short answer is yes, and these are some of the reasons why.

One of the best reasons is that balloons are inexpensive. Many brokers provide them to their agents for free, and even if they don’t they can be had quite easily.

The key of course is how to get the helium you will need to have them aloft. That is not so easy, and even myself I am always at odds on trying to figure it out.

Usually you can buy more decorative balloons already filled with helium at your local grocer, or florist, but then it can get expensive. Most florists are not open on Sunday’s when most open houses happen, and grocery store floral departments don’t always have just “normal” balloons.

Another reason to continue to use balloons is that it shows your sellers that you are making an effort to bring as many people as possible to the open house. Your sellers see them before and after the event, and yes they take notice!

The best reason for continuing to use balloons when you host an open house is that it brings traffic. What they do, when placed properly and in the right locations, is they draw attention. Something about them bouncing in the wind, makes a passerby take notice, and hopefully stop to take a look.

I know myself when I see them late on a Saturday or on a Sunday, I take notice and I even know what they are there for. Sometime I will even veer off course, just to see what the listing is. Yes, they are that effective.

On open house day(s), use them generously, and use them often. Put them at every major intersection, and have several on the signage of your open house.

Have extra balloons? Use those as gifts for the kids. However don’t share before the parents tour, since they do distract.

Instead share with the kids upon them leaving the house. It will be a fond memory for the child, and the parents will remember you, and perhaps your listing. Perhaps remember you and your listing over others they may have met, or seen.

So, do you use balloons in your open house marketing? Have you seen them to be effective, or not? Do you use them on all types of property you have listed, or only on certain price points or types? Post your experiences below.

Support the LGBT Community

Bulk of Gay Pride Flags 50 Count

Show Your Support during Pride Month

Gay Pride Flag Real Estate MarketingThe month of June is Gay Pride month, and what better time to show your support of your local LGBT community. Many cities, including my own have Pride Parades, and this may be a super marketing idea to try, and also show your support for the LGBT community where you live, and work.

Bulk Gay flags are pretty reasonable, and are available on Amazon, and other retailers. You can buy in quantities of 25, 50 or even more units. They are priced very reasonable, and are a great show of support, and will be well received.

The marketing idea would be to order an adequate quantity to “cover” the area you plan to attend in, then provide these to your fellow parade watchers. You want to order, more than a few since you certainly don’t want to be seen as being stingy, or slighting a parade watcher.

How do you use them to market your real estate business? I would suggest perhaps taping a business card to the stick. Another idea could be to hand the attendee a card, or even better hand out a business card magnet, and also a flag to the parade goer.

These small, and inexpensive tokens of support will be a great conversation starter first and foremost. You will be watching the parade anyway, why not do so with people who are glad that you are there participating with them. Them, and you waving their gay flags as a sign of support.

Also, long after the parade is over, the card and/or magnet will find its way to the wallet, or perhaps refrigerator of the parade goer. The attendee will know that you support the local LGBT community, and may share your name with their friends, and family who may be in the market to buy, or sell a home.

You can buy a great selection of flags of various styles, and quantities on Amazon. The links below, and in the post above, are my Amazon Affiliate links, and I do earn a small fee with each purchase. However, you don’t pay any more for the item, and the fee collected does help me pay for my website, so I can continue to offer it for free.
